OF HANNOVER WITH CASE. Cal. 9.3X72R. S# 1995 (on loop). The 27-1/4" dovetailed steel barrels are fitted with full length matted rib holding one standing flip-over leaf rear sight and silver bead front with flip-up bead dovetailed into raised portion of rib. Tops of barrels are engraved with maker's name and address. Barrel flats are stamped with pre-1896 German black powder proofs. Case hardened round bodied top lever action with cross bolt third fastener is fitted with peninsula back spring rebounding locks having well filed hammers with tall spurs. A flip-up aperture rear sight is let into top tang. Action is engraved with about 40% coverage well cut scroll within line and geometric borders. "H. Scherping" is in ribbon on left lock "HANNOVER" is on right. Both triggers are set. Steel trigger guard with scroll on bow has checkered tang. Round knob long pistol grip buttstock made of a very attractive piece of crotch figured European walnut measures 14-1/8" over checkered horn buttplate. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece and point pattern grip checkering. Toeline is fitted with matching cartridge trap with space for two cartridges which is held in place by sling loop that matches one found on barrel. Matching splinter forend has Deeley release. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in a new tan leather case with leather corners; lined in green felt. A reproduction Scherping label is in lid. Case contains a key. CONDITION: fine. Original "as found". Barrels retaining over 70% original blue. Action and locks with most of their original case hardening color. Stocks have over 80% original finish with a fair number of marks and dings; some fairly deep. Checkering is lightly worn. Bores are good with strong rifling throughout; dark in grooves.
